Let there be light: LED Light Therapy now available at POD

Back in October POD undertook a trial to see if LED Light Therapy would be the perfect Bolt-On experience to a POD massage. 16 of our amazing POD customers volunteered to take part and we were amazed by the feedback.


Before we find out what they said, let’s delve into LED Light Therapy?


Light creates more than just visual impressions. It promotes biological and psychological effects that can positively impact our physical and mental wellbeing.


Light can lessen depression and improve mood during times of stress and through the winter months. Light can stabilise our circadian rhythm, helping us get a better and deeper night’s sleep. Light can improve the appearance of our skin, reducing fine-lines and wrinkles, brightening the skin, and alleviating acne.


Non-invasive and pain-free, low intensity LED Light Therapy can achieve amazing benefits in a convenient 20-minute therapy.

How does it work?


RED Light - Wrinkle Reduction


As we age, the skin becomes thinner and blood vessels become visible, and our pores may also increase in size. There are changes beneath the surface too, as the collagen and elastic fibres that allow our skin to stretch, start to degrade.


LED RED light is absorbed by the skin and triggers the cells into producing more cellular fuel (ATP). ATP boosts the skin’s performance and increases DNA-RNA activity. This has two effects; 1) the release Nitric Oxide (NO) which helps the skin to heal, regenerate and combat inflammation, and; 2) the activation of fibroblasts which promotes the production of collagen and elastin proteins stimulating the body’s rejuvenating processes. Simply put, RED light helps rebuilds the structure of the dermis, and in doing so reduces wrinkles.


RED Light - Improved Sleep


When our circadian rhythm (sleep cycle) is off, people can experience poor sleep and higher stress levels, increased anxiety and depression. Melatonin, the hormone responsible for regulating sleep and wakefulness in our bodies, increases with exposure to RED light, helping us get ready for a good night’s sleep. And a good night’s sleep helps reduce cortisol our stress hormone. RED light exposure at the end of the day (and avoiding BLUE light), as well as a relaxing bedtime routine, can positively and naturally improve the quality of sleep.


BLUE Light - Acne Reduction


LED BLUE light reduces activity in the sebaceous glands, which are small oil-producing glands in the skin, and in doing so causes the glands to produce less oil, improving acne symptoms. Blue light also kills bacteria that contribute to acne by causing inflammation. BLUE Light LED makes a great treatment to reduce acne and control breakouts.


BLUE Light - Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)


Receptors in the eyes detect the BLUE light in natural sunlight, which tells the brain the difference between night and day stopping the production of melatonin, our sleep hormone. As we move into winter, for some, the exposure to the BLUE light in natural sunshine simply isn’t enough to regulate melatonin levels. The effect is Seasonal Affective Disorder or SAD. People describe SAD as feeling like they’ve lost their get up and go, as well as low mood and depression. A concentrated hit of BLUE light in the morning can suppress the production of melatonin during the day to allow the circadian rhythm to normalise.
